Know the facts.
< In Canada 1 in 4 women will be sexually assaulted
in their lifetime. Half of these women will be
assaulted before they are 17 years old.
< Nearly all sexual assaults are committed by men.
< You are more likely to be sexually assaulted by
someone you know, than a stranger. 83% of women
who have been raped know their attacker.
< 90% of females with disabilities have been sexually
exploited by men they know.
< The risk of rape is four times higher for the 16
to 24 age group.
< A Metro Toronto study found that one in four female
highschool students had been persuaded to have
intercourse.
< A long term study on teens found that :
56%had been raped while on a date
30% had been raped by a friend
11% had been raped by a boyfriend
78% did not tell their parents
71% told one or more of their friends
6% reported the rape to the police.
< 90% of sexual assaults are not reported to the police
< More than 70% of the 8100 sexual assault crimes in Canada
were perpetrated against females under the age of 25.
